Irene joined Rotary in 1999 where she loves connecting with others and helping  improve the lives of other people. She became a US citizen in 2005 and has worked in the travel industry for many years.
Irene has been doing travel consulting from her home and enjoys it too much to retire. She now focuses primarily on ocean and river cruise vacations.  Irene manages the Club's bell-ringing assignments each winter. She embodies the phrase "Be Grateful!".
Ken Parsons reported the closing date for scholarship applications is May 15th.
Sheryll Apte reported on recent projects we are supporting with Duck Dash funds through the Community Needs Committee. She encouraged organizations to send grant requests to the Club by email or to our Lacey Post Office Box 5850.
Our next virtual meeting via Zoom, May 14th, will be announced by email.
Program: District Governor
Maureen "Mo" Fitz-Roberts
File photo
Mo's  mantra is "Membership is primary", and she is pleased the District gained over 120 members this year.
She announced the Rotary International Convention may be held using Zoom or something like it, June 20-26 of this year in lieu of an actual gathering due to the Corona Virus health issues.
The DG is encouraged by the number of Rotarians who signed up for the District Training Convention May 16th. She said the President of RI  may be present to open the cocktail party at 5:00 PM. It is not yet certain, but in future years, more District meetings may be virtual ones.
Mo emphasized the value of the Rotary organization as a world-wide health organization capable of tackling pandemics as well as curing polio. It has been valuable in India used to track the progress of COVID-19.
Mo cited Rotary's mission to cure polio as the momentous event in the 1980's that made her want to be a part of Rotary.  She was excited to join back then, before women were accepted as official members.

Kevin Hayward reported the Boys & Girls Clubs' Breakfast may be a virtual meeting May 28th at 8:00 AM.
Sheryll Apte has been making face masks and received two checks $100 each that will go to charity.
Watch for a survey from Mitch Dietz regarding the plans for future meetings.
