Meeting via Zoom on April 30, 2020
Meeting of Lacey Rotary Club
on the Zoom application

 The meeting was opened by
Club President Elect Kelly Golob.

Kelly reminded us our nation's flag was made official when it was signed into law April 4th, 1818, and James Munroe was the President.

Since it was Irene's birthday, everyone wished her happy birthday with a song.

  ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Kelly reported the ground has been cleared for the 50th anniversary project but is delayed about five weeks, until play equipment arrives.

Kelly cited decisions from the last Board meeting - to hold Duck Dash tickets, the event has been rescheduled for September 5th, the County Fairgrounds have been scheduled. The Board is still exploring what the event might become in September as unfortunately the school bands will not be available to play.

Our next meeting on Zoom, May 7th, will be announced by email beforehand.

Program: Patty Belmonte:
The Hands-on Museum

Patty has seen marvelous growth at the museum over the past 24 years; they had 328,000 visitors last year, 2019.

Due to the Corona virus restrictions, all staff have been furloughed except for a small management team working on a limited program of activity videos for kids and families.  Having to refund for cancelled programs, the museum's revenue is down 82 percent, for a loss of $328 thousand.

Knowing the value of real inter-action for childhood development, they are planning for a revised future.

The museum will have a phased approach back to normal starting with outdoor/ open-air activities:
  1. Reduced use of props
  2. Changed space utilization
  3. Hand washing stations
  4. Control numbers of visitors
  5. Continue using videos where possible: (Doctor Science and Brin Smith on YouTube.)
