Meeting of Lacey Rotary Club
at St Martins University Worthington Center
The meeting was opened by
 Past President Dave Schneider.
Dave reminded us there will not be a meeting next Thursday; October 25th is group dinner night. The following Thursday, November 1st, the meeting will be at Lacey Community Center.
Pledge of Allegiance led by Ken Balsley
Song led by Irene Emmons-Perez:
"God Bless America"
Thought for the Day
   from Carrie Whisler -
"Happy people are not necessarily thankful,
but thankful people are happy."
Thanks to Courtney Schrieve for reminding us of this year's LITERACY PROJECT! Bring books for the BOOK DRIVE in Steve Romine's memory.
Our Club is competing with Gateway Club and the rest of District 5020.  Ask friends and neighbors for old children's books, or buy secondhand books. You can also donate cash to buy books.

Visiting Rotarians:   Kevin Hayward of the Gateway Club.
Ken Balsley introduced prospective member, Justin Cohen, classification Real Estate.
Ken Parsons helped introduce six Interact Club members from North Thurston High School
PROGRAM:  "Pink-tober - Breast Cancer Awareness
 by Alexa Worden
The 2019 Relay for Life will be June 21st - 22nd
Alexa awarded our Club two certificates for donations made for our team, putting us in the top ten for team and individual donations at the 2018 Relay for Life.
Ken Parsons cited two future dates to save:
February 8, 2019: the Valentine Auction for The Rotary Foundation (TRF) at Indian Summer Golf & Country Club.
March 28, 2019:  Paul Harris Recognition Dinner at the Red Lion
Ken Parsons reported the Club will match $50 of each member's one-time contribution to the TRF. This makes it easier to meet the $100 required to achieve sustaining member status. The Club has had 100% sustaining members participation in past years.
Ken collected contributions from members at the meeting toward the Club goal of $1,500 for Polio-Plus. If each member gave $20., the Club would achieve the goal. The final tally was within $50 of the goal.
The Other Bank: bring in personal care items this month - or donate some cash for our mission to the YWCA.

Meeting on November 1st will be at the Lacey Community Center.

FELLOWSHIP: Ken Falkowski gave us a report on his recent visit to Colorado. He then proceeded to impose fines on members to raise money for the Club.

MEDALLION: Mike Marohn announced for Kelly Golob  the Roots Sports "Adult Prom" fund raiser held November 3rd in the Eagles Ballroom in Olympia. For more info, visit

Food Bank Thursday: The third Thursday of each month at 5:30 PM, our Club supports the Food Bank at its warehouse on Mottman Road on the city's west side.
